How do I create my first monitor?

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. The free plan is genuinely free — 3 monitors, Web Page monitoring, 60-min polling, full API access, webhooks and HMAC signatures. No credit card required.

What URLs can I monitor?

Any publicly accessible HTTP/HTTPS URL: regular web pages, JSON API endpoints, sitemaps, and JS-rendered pages (Pro and Business plans). We respect robots.txt and rate-limit our requests.

How do I verify my webhook is working?

Use the webhook test endpoint: POST /api/webhooks/test with your webhook URL. We'll fire a test payload immediately so you can verify your receiver is set up correctly.

What's the fastest polling interval?

Free: 60 minutes. Starter: 15 minutes. Pro: 5 minutes. Business: 1 minute. Sub-minute polling is on the roadmap for Enterprise plans.

Where do I find my API key?

In the app under Settings → API Keys. Your Client ID is the value that starts with dh_live_. The client secret is shown only once when you create the key. You can create multiple keys and revoke them individually.

How do I authenticate API requests?

Use OAuth: POST /api/oauth/token with client_id and client_secret, then Authorization: Bearer <access_token>.

API requests are rate-limited to 200 requests per minute per IP. Webhook deliveries are not rate-limited — we deliver as fast as possible.

We're building official clients for Node.js and Python. For now, the API is simple enough to use with any HTTP client (axios, fetch, requests, etc.).

How do I verify webhook authenticity?

We include an X-Signature header with a sha256 HMAC of the payload, signed with your team's signing secret. Find your signing secret in Settings → API Keys.

What does the webhook payload look like?

The payload includes event type, monitor ID, URL, diff summary, added/removed content, and full before/after snapshots. See the Docs page for the full schema.

What happens if my webhook endpoint is down?

We try once immediately, then up to 10 more times with exponential backoff in minutes (1, 2, 4, 8, … up to 512 minutes between attempts). If every attempt fails, the delivery is logged as failed or exhausted and you'll see it in Logs.

Can I filter what changes trigger a webhook?

CSS/XPath selectors let you watch only a specific element. Conditional triggers (keyword/threshold matching) are coming in a future release.

How quickly does the webhook fire after a change is detected?

Typically within seconds of the scheduled check completing. Priority delivery (paid) ensures your webhook is at the front of the delivery queue.

DiffHook is a flat monthly (or annual) subscription — no credits, no per-check charges. Free is $0 forever. Starter is $12/mo, Pro is $29/mo, Business is $79/mo. Annual billing saves 25%.

Pay once a year and save 25%: Starter $9/mo ($108/yr), Pro $23/mo ($276/yr), Business $63/mo ($756/yr). You can switch to annual from your Billing settings at any time.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?

Yes, any time. Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated — you only pay the difference for the remainder of the billing period. Downgrades apply at the end of your current period.

Can I get a refund?

If you're not satisfied, contact support@diffhook.com within 7 days of a charge and we'll make it right. Prorated refunds are issued when downgrading mid-period.

Yes. Stripe sends a receipt automatically each billing cycle, and you can view all charges in App → Billing → Invoice history.

Does DiffHook have an n8n node?

We're building a native n8n community node. In the meantime, use the HTTP Request node with your API key — works perfectly for creating monitors and receiving webhooks.

How do I use DiffHook with Make (formerly Integromat)?

Use the Make HTTP module to call the DiffHook API. Create a webhook trigger in Make, then set notification_config.webhook_url (or the webhook field in the app) when creating a monitor so your scenario fires on every change.

Can I use DiffHook with Zapier?

Yes. Use Zapier's "Catch Hook" trigger to get a webhook URL, then create a DiffHook monitor pointing to it. Your Zap will fire whenever the monitored URL changes.

Does DiffHook support Slack notifications?

Yes. In the app, open Integrations for your workspace and use "Add Slack channel" to connect with OAuth. You can still use n8n, Make, or Zapier with a generic webhook if you want custom formatting.

How does Discord work?

Add the DiffHook bot to your server from Integrations, then run /diffhook connect in the channel where you want alerts. We post there using the bot — no incoming webhook URLs.

Is there a Zapier integration?

A native Zapier app is on the roadmap. Currently, use Webhooks by Zapier (Catch Hook) as the trigger — it works identically.
